The long awaited seventh episode of the Star Wars series has finally arrived. Directed by J. J. Abrams, the films has been a major success. In fact, it became the third highest grossing film in the history of film-making! All the beloved characters, Luke, Leia, Han and others will once more return for this epic adventure, and maybe even an 8th after that; who knows? The eternal patience of the fans was finally rewarded with the first screening of the film on December sixteenth.

The movie is equally entertaining for old Star Wars fans as it is for the newer generations. Audiences that are not so familiar with the rest of the series will not be deprived of enjoying and understanding the film. The movie is, however, particularly special for those who loved the original trilogy. These viewers will be reunited once again with the settings they know and love, but more importantly with the old legendary characters: Han Solo, Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker, who are played by none other than the original actors themselves, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill, respectively. The film also features the return of beloved Chewbacca, R2-D2 and C3PO, overall very nicely recapturing the essence and feeling of the original series. At the same time, the film introduces a new generation of heroes: Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega) and Poe (Oscar Isaac), as well as adorable drone BB-8. These characters are just as interesting and fantastically portrayed as the former ones.

There is much to be said about this film. The film is action-packed, while it also has its deeper moments, with a nice balance evening out the two. The story itself was very exciting, not allowing the audience to look away for a single second. There has been some criticism, however, towards the murder of Han Solo, seeing as it seemed a little too foreseeable. The ending, on the other hand, received fairly positive feedback, as it brought about a nice cliffhanger. when it comes to the elements of the original series. The opening scene was still the same, as were many of the original characters, as mentioned before. John Williams was once again part of the team, having composed a beautiful, heartwarming original score for the film. Speaking of which, the film received a total of five nominations for the Academy Awards of 2016, including Best Original Score. The other nominations were Film Editing, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing and Visual Effects. It was very unfortunate, however, that none of these nominations turned into a win, but nonetheless received much positive criticism from fans all over the world. The real Star Wars enthusiasts would also add the special Star Wars filter to their profile picture on Facebook, causing you to appear as if holding a light saber, and allowing to awake the force inside you! And if that was not enough, Time Magazine wrote a special feature article about the film, with soulful pictures of the cast, including BB-8 and R2-D2, appealing to both older and young Star Wars lovers.True Star Wars fans were also not disappointed when it comes to the elements of the original series. One of the most positive aspects of this movie is that is redefines the idea of a hero – it teaches the viewer that heroes have no specific age, race or gender. The audience leaves the movie theater inspired, knowing that whether they’re black, white, male, female, young, old, a wookie, a droid or anything in between, they have the strength and potential to fight for good and achieve great things. So, if you are thinking of watching this movie but are at the same time skeptical about the awakening of such a saga, rest assured that this film is as great as a revival of a series can get. Put on your 3D glasses and get ready to encounter old and beloved characters and settings as well as brand new ones, great CGI, action-packed scenes and emotional moments.
